A no-spend month means buying only essentials for 30 days. It's a reset, not a lifestyle. Most people come out the other side with savings and a clearer sense of what they actually value.
Set your rules first
Decide what's allowed before day one. Typically: rent or mortgage, bills, groceries, fuel or travel, medicine and existing commitments. Not allowed: takeaways, clothes, gadgets, impulse buys.
Plan your swaps
- Takeaway night → a cook-at-home favourite
- Coffee shop → a flask from home
- Shopping as a hobby → a walk, library or free event
- New clothes → a wardrobe sort-out
Remove the temptation
Unsubscribe from shop emails, delete saved cards from shopping sites and turn off app notifications for the month.
Bank the win
At the end of each week, move the money you didn't spend into savings. Seeing the number grow keeps you going.
